Hang On To Old Electronics, Or Get Paid For Them?

Do you have a lot of old electronics sitting around that are taking up a lot of room? As we see the shelf life for electronics continually decrease we see this becoming a larger and more difficult problem for consumers. So, what are your options...what can you do with that pile of outdated laptops, iPods, and cell phones cluttering up your bedroom.

1. Sale it on eBay! That is right, this is where your trusty high speed internet comes in. Of course if you still have dial up you are not necessarily left out in the cold, it is just going to take a little longer... actually a lot longer. Selling your expired electronics on eBay is probably where you will get the best price, however it will probably be the biggest hassle, as you have to deal with actually shipping the product.

2. Rent-It! This might seem a little confusing, but yes, you might be able to actually rent your old electronics equipment. Websites like rentalic.com and zilok.com have designed a similar concept to eBay, only for renting your lightly used products instead of selling them. This is another situation in which high speed broadband would come in handy.

3. This is a fairly new option, but Best Buy has recently opened a buyback program. Rumor has it that they will give you up to 50% of what you originally paid for the product. This would probably be the least time commitment, as you could simply take your product to the nearest Best Buy store and get paid. Although, there are a couple disadvantages of this option as well, the obvious of which limits you to a maximum of 50% return. The other major disadvantage is that you have to actually purchase the product from the Best buy store to be eligible for the buyback option. This will obviously exclude a lot of your products, unless you do A LOT of shopping at Best Buy.

So, stop letting those old electronics sit around, and make some extra money with them. If you have used any of these services, which one have you found to be the best option for generating income from your expired electronics?
